Balancing Scrubs & Self-Care: Holistic Wellness for Working Moms in Healthcare

Hey mama in scrubs—this one’s for you.

Whether you're a nurse, CNA, therapist, provider, or healthcare worker…
Whether you're clocking 12-hour shifts or juggling charting with carpool…
You carry a lot.

You serve patients, coworkers, and your family—and sometimes forget to serve yourself.

In this week's episode of the Holistic Moms podcast, I shared what it looks like to balance the badge of caregiver with the call to care for yourself.

Here’s a recap with practical steps to reclaim your peace, energy, and time—no matter how busy life gets.

The Reality of Life in Scrubs

Let’s be honest—working in healthcare is high-stress. You’re constantly on, giving, helping, doing.

And when the shift ends, the work at home begins:

  • Dinner.

  • Bedtime.

  • Emotional regulation for tiny humans.

  • The mental load of everything.

No wonder so many of us are in burnout and barely keeping up.

But here's the truth: you don’t have to live in survival mode.

What Holistic Wellness Actually Means

Holistic wellness isn’t about doing more—it’s about alignment. You are made up of 8 main wellness areas- physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, social, financial, occupational, environmental. Knowing they are all connected and living from that place of integration is holistic wellness.

It’s checking in with:

  • Your body

  • Your emotions

  • Your thoughts

  • Your connection with God

And it’s about making small, intentional choices that refill your cup from the inside out.

5 Micro-Practices for Holistic Wellness (Even in Chaos)

1. Breath + Prayer Pause
Take just 2 minutes to reset.
Breath Prayer: Inhale “Lord, sustain me.” Exhale “I release what I can’t carry.”

2. Reclaim Your Commute
Use your drive to pour in—not just zone out.
Worship, silence, or uplifting podcasts can reset your nervous system.

3. Nourishment Over Meals
Fuel yourself with snacks that actually give you energy.
Think: a smoothie, protein bar, or water with electrolytes in your nurse bag.

4. Sacred 10-Minute Reset
Carve out 10 minutes to be off duty.
Light a candle, stretch, journal, breathe, read—just be.

5. Ask Yourself Daily:
“What is one way I can be kind to myself today?”
Let the answer be small but intentional.
Because kindness to yourself is holy.

You’re Allowed to Rest

Jesus withdrew to quiet places.

So can you.

Your value isn’t in what you accomplish—it’s in who you are.
You’re a beloved daughter of God, doing hard and holy work.

Caring for your body, your mind, your spirit—it isn’t selfish.
It’s what helps you show up for everyone else with joy instead of resentment.

Your Challenge This Week

Pick one of the five practices above.
Try it for 3 days.

Let it be simple. Let it be sacred.
And if you do it, I’d love for you to DM me and tell me what shifted.

You’re never walking this alone.
